During his junior high years in the 1980s, Richmond, Virginia indie popster Scott Brookman started capturing tracks at home on both his own solo efforts and songs tied to his earliest group, the Poisonous Sewer Fish. After spending time in the obscure Apes of Wrath, he turned to writing original material and, performing alone, distributed a run of self-released cassettes from the late 1980s through the early 1990s that included Bonaparte, Hot Enough to Fry Your Dog's Brain, frozenrawheadless, In My Own Backyard, Tool for the Man, It's More Than a Hobby and A National Treasure. The seven-inch EP The Busy World of Scott Brookman came out on Twee Kitten in 1997, followed a year later by The Man From Operations (and three others). Early 2000 brought his return via For Those Who Like Pop.
