Biography
As a modern pianist and composer, Scott Hiltzik divides his time between live performance—most regularly alongside the jazz quartet House of Games and assorted other ensembles—and the creation of original works spanning multiple idioms. His scores fuse improvisational jazz, classical, cinematic, and world-music idioms into a single personal language. Among his collaborators have been guitarist Jimmy Wyble, the shakuhachi and koto duo Hozan and Yuko Nomura, and lyricist Michael Cormier, with whom he has fashioned three musicals and a large body of songs. He has also issued a graded series of instructional volumes for piano study. Orchestras throughout North America and Australia regularly program his music, which has been captured on disc by California’s Bay Brass and by pianist Elina Christova.
