Sea of Green's concerts deploy swirling liquid projections, burning incense, fog generators, and explosive effects to summon the weight of the early 1970s, matching the impact of the group's own colossal, riff-heavy, and off-kilter sound. Drawing clear lines between Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd, the Toronto outfit delivers an immersive journey through psychedelic stoner rock.

The band came together in Toronto, Canada, in 1999 after bassist Eric Kuthe—whose parents once operated a city rock venue that regularly featured Sabbath, Hendrix, and Grand Funk Railroad—joined forces with drummer Chris Bender and guitarist Travis Cardinal for informal sessions. Cardinal assumed lead vocals, after which the trio began composing original material inspired by such disparate acts as Queens of the Stone Age, Cream, and Oasis. Their debut EP, Northern Lights, appeared on the Music Cartel label in July 2000. Later that year the musicians finished their first album at Toronto’s Chalet studio. Released as Time to Fly and helmed by producer Nick Blagona, whose résumé includes work with Nazareth and Deep Purple, the record contains an intricate reinterpretation of Pink Floyd’s “Breathe,” establishing Sea of Green among the foremost exponents of psychedelic metal.
