Biography
New York City outfit Sea Ray crafts a striking fusion of indie pop, space rock, and classic psychedelia that distinguishes them from the surrounding wave of post-punk revivalists. Emerging in Brooklyn during the late 1990s, the ensemble issued a self-titled debut in 1997 and then an EP overseen by Tobin Sprout of Guided By Voices in 1999. Live appearances alongside acts such as the Church and Yo La Tengo paved the way for the 2001 arrival of the Revelry EP, which earned favorable notice from critics and college radio. Mounting local interest prompted an expansion of their performances to include elaborate film and video projections. Regional and international recognition soon followed, after which the fully realized sextet—cellist Anne Brewster, drummer Colin Brooks, bass player I-Huei Go, keyboardist Jeff Sheinkopf, guitarist Greg Zinman, and vocalist/guitarist Jordan Warner—turned to recording their first proper album. Stars at Noon appeared in summer 2003 on The Self-Starter Foundation label.
