Seamus Ennis (1919-1982) brought an exhaustive command of Ireland’s traditional repertoire together with masterful instrumental technique to safeguard the Emerald Isle’s age-old folk songs and airs. As presenter of programs on Radio Eireann and the BBC, he devoted long stretches to roaming Ireland’s rural countryside, amassing hundreds of pieces expressly for use on those broadcasts.
