Biography
Sean Tyas, a DJ and producer of remarkable output who originates from New York yet resides in Switzerland, has built his reputation on a hard yet uplifting strain of progressive trance. Dreamy and melodic qualities often define his tracks, yet an aggressive edge frequently surfaces that recalls psy-trance as well as post-2010 dubstep and EDM; he has also created material in drum'n'bass and breaks from time to time. Performances at numerous dance music festivals and major clubs have punctuated his path, matched by repeated entries in DJ Mag's annual Top 100 poll across consecutive years, the issuance of several mix CDs and compilations, and the delivery of dozens of singles and remixes.
Exposure to techno began early for Tyas, who launched his own production work in 2000. Remixes for P!nk and Moby followed soon afterward, together with 12" releases of his original tracks. A 2004 move to Germany led to joint work with Michael Urgacz (Beam) and a handful of singles on Beam Traxx. After settling in Switzerland, his profile rose sharply in 2006 upon winning a Sander van Doorn remix contest and issuing the club hit "Lift."
Praise from Mixmag and Beatport soon followed, and mix CDs began appearing in 2007, among them Live As... Vol. 4 with John Askew and the double-disc Trance World, Vol. 3. The 2009 singles "Seven Weeks" and "Melbourne" likewise registered as major club successes. In 2011 he founded Tytanium Recordings and delivered the two-CD mix Tytanium Sessions Alpha. Tytanium 200 arrived in 2013. Black Hole Recordings signed him in 2014, and the long-awaited full-length debut Degeneration reached listeners in 2016.
