Searows serves as the performance identity of Alec Duckart, a singer and songwriter whose work blends intimate themes with expansive sonic textures. Shaped by the Pacific Northwest’s muted landscapes, where Duckart has resided since childhood, the songs center on the fragile tremor of his falsetto, the steady pulse of acoustic guitar, and subtle electronic layers woven behind them. Duckart began circulating his material during his early teenage years, achieving wider notice through the self-recorded debut album Guard Dog in 2022, an effort that secured a contract and led to the 2023 EP End of the World.

Born in Lexington, Kentucky, on March 2, 2000, Duckart moved with his family to Portland, Oregon, at a young age and remained there. Guitar entered his life by age twelve, alongside repeated exposure to his parents’ favored artists such as Sufjan Stevens, the Decemberists, and Iron & Wine. Songwriting began in junior high, followed by home recordings uploaded to SoundCloud. He later embraced a falsetto delivery and atmospheric arrangements, crafting increasingly detailed pieces that he produced alone on an older laptop; the first release under the Searows name, the single “Used to be Friends,” appeared in 2022. Social-media clips broadened his reach, eventually reaching Ethel Cain, who asked him to support several of her concerts. Guard Dog, Searows’ initial full-length album, arrived by the close of 2022 and earned favorable notices from independent critics, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. British-Canadian singer-songwriter Matt Maltese also became an admirer. Preparing to inaugurate the imprint Last Recordings on Earth through Communion Records, Maltese contacted Duckart and proposed that he become the label’s inaugural signing. Duckart agreed, resulting in the release of End of the World on the new label in 2023.
