Biography
Seedsmen to the World unites several prominent figures from Detroit’s experimental music community, merging the expansive, atmospheric textures long associated with Infinite River and the songwriting and vocal presence of Ethan Daniel Davidson. The ensemble released its first recording, a self-titled album on Blue Arrow Records, in 2022.
The lineup features guitarists Gretchen Gonzales, previously active in Slumber Party, Universal Indians, and Terror at the Opera, and Joey Mazzola, known for work with Sponge and the Detroit Cobras; Warren Defever, founder of His Name Is Alive, contributes harmonium and tanpura, while Steve Nistor, whose credits include Daniel Lanois and Sparks, handles drums and percussion. Ethan Daniel Davidson supplies vocals and cello banjo. Prior to the group’s formation, Davidson had already issued several solo albums, and Defever, Gonzales, and Mazzola had previously collaborated as Infinite River. Their debut album comprises four extended, shape-shifting drones in which Davidson adapts lyrics drawn from well-known compositions by Bob Dylan and Creedence Clearwater Revival as well as lesser-known material by more obscure songwriters.
