Biography
Seekonk is a dreamy quintet based in Portland, Maine, whose members include multi-instrumentalists Dave Noyes and Patrick Corrigan, drummer and percussionist Jason Ingalls, guitarist vocalist and keyboardist Todd Hutchisen, and vocalist Sara Raney. The project originated in early 2002 when Noyes, also employed as a sous chef, and Corrigan, who works as a painter and illustrator, were each ending relationships and began writing songs together in response. Shana Barry was enlisted to perform the vocal parts, after which the three-piece unit gave its first concert that March by playing every one of the five original songs then in the repertoire alongside covers of Low and Neil Young, both of whom exert a strong influence on Seekonk’s sound. The group reached its full five-member configuration by summer, and in fall 2002 Noyes, Corrigan, Ingalls, Hutchisen, and Barry started work on the debut album For Barbara Lee. Kimchee issued the record late in 2003, the same year Sara Raney succeeded Barry as the band’s vocalist.
