Biography
Drawing from an eclectic array of influences that bridge referential and classic rock & roll with alternative and post-grunge elements, Self-Evident forges layered, hybrid thematic material while retaining a pronounced melodic acuity. Formed in Minneapolis, MN, the band Self-Evident first coalesced in 1997 as a trio comprising guitarist and vocalist Conrad Mach, bassist Tom Berg, and drummer Brian Heitzman. Repeated appearances at neighborhood venues quickly earned the group substantial notice inside the Minneapolis music community, chiefly through its vigorous and invigorating stage presence. The musicians next entered the studio to capture early demo recordings, which preceded their signing with Doom Nibler Records. What We Sound Like, the outfit’s debut album, reached stores in 2000 and bolstered its mounting visibility. In 2001 the trio tracked its follow-up effort, the EP Direct.
