Biography

Sena Dagadu, a singer, songwriter, and poet of Ghanaian and Hungarian heritage, blends the essences of Marcia Griffiths, Neneh Cherry, and Nina Simone in her approach. The versatile performer launched her recording path through hip-hop by issuing the album First One in 2003. Her pattern of frequent guest appearances began two years afterward with a contribution to Marcel's trip-hop single "Change Colours Again." Reggae influences moved to the fore in 2007 via her appearance on DJ Vadim's album The Soundcatcher. In 2008 she issued the single "Bun It Out" via Da1yah Records. Still that year, "Rebel Woman" occupied the B-side of Jah Mason's single "In My Heart." Her spoken-word abilities supported the 2009 album W.H., which merged William Shakespeare's texts with contemporary musical settings. The Hungarian division of Universal put out her second solo album, Lots of Trees, in 2013. She rejoined DJ Vadim in 2015 for the complete album Grow Slow, issued on the BBE label.
