Biography
In 1984, Sacramento, California, USA, became the origin point for thrash metal outfit Sentinel Beast when bassist Mike Spencer joined forces with vocalist Debbie Gunn and drummer Scott Awes. Guitarists Barry Fischel and Mark Koyasako came aboard soon afterward, enabling the band’s first exposure via their signature track ‘Sentinel Beast’ on the 1986 Metal Massacre VII compilation. That placement secured a full contract with Metal Blade Records and yielded the album Depths Of Death later the same year. The record delivered standard Anthrax-style heavy metal that suffered from weak production and stood out chiefly for its high-speed cover of Iron Maiden’s ‘Phantom Of The Opera’. Poor sales followed, after which founder Mike Spencer exited to join Flotsam And Jetsam. The remaining members soon parted ways, though Debbie Gunn resurfaced later in Znowhite and Ice Age.
