Biography
The New York-based jazz trio Sephardic Tinge features downtown pianist Anthony Coleman alongside bassist Ben Street and drummer Michael Sarin. This ensemble appears to extend an earlier endeavor by Coleman captured on his 1995 recording Sephardic Tinge, which involved Greg Cohen and Joey Baron. Equal inspiration comes to the group from both jazz conventions and Sephardic practices, referring to the Jewish musical heritage emerging from the Mediterranean region settled by those expelled from Spain during the Middle Ages. Sephardic Tinge also incorporates some Latin rhythmic elements into its sound.
