Biography
The five members of Sequoyah Prep School formed in Florence, SC, launching their affable, Americana-influenced pop songs in 2003. Early on, the outfit drew from acts that had ruled radio airwaves ten years earlier, with Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows foremost among those touchstones, yet they anchored one side of their sound firmly in the present day as MySpace and similar social platforms became their primary promotional channels. After issuing their independent debut Weights Are Heavy in August 2005, Justin Osborne, West Jones, Jordan Hicks, Johnnie Matthews, and Harrison Boyd spent the next stretch crisscrossing the East Coast, prioritizing college campuses before branching into additional territories behind later releases including 2007’s We Said Hello... and 2008’s Ghost Town. That final album moved more than 20,000 units inside its opening twelve months, drawing notice from multiple labels as the group turned its focus toward recording a fourth project.
