Biography
Under the Sequoyah Tiger alias, Verona native Leila Gharib crafts retro-flavored electronic pop. Her tracks weave '50s-era pop melodies through dense layers of dreamy electronics and guitars, resulting in material that feels simultaneously playful, eccentric, longing, and melancholic. Deeply embedded in her hometown's creative community, Gharib works as a visual and performance artist, issues her own zines, and helms the videos for her recordings. During the 2000s she performed with the indie rock outfit Bikini the Cat; in 2008 she helped establish the performing arts collective Barokthegreat. Sequoyah Tiger demo EPs began appearing in 2014, and the project joined the roster of the storied independent electronic imprint Morr Music in 2016. That same year saw the release of the EP Ta-Ta-Ta-Time, which spotlighted the single "Hey Paul Anka," alongside a split single with Saroos on which the two acts reworked each other's material. Sequoyah Tiger's first album, Parabolabandit, arrived in 2017.
