Biography
Detroit trio Shadow Show fuse Beatles-esque melodic instincts with high-energy garage pop. Longtime friends who had already played together in another group, the three musicians created an aura of intrigue and menace through the mod-inflected rock tracks that defined both their 2020 debut album Silhouettes and their 2024 follow-up Fantasy Now!
Shadow Show came together in 2018 with guitarist/vocalist Ava East, drummer/vocalist Kerrigan Pearce, and bassist/vocalist Kate Derringer. Each member had previously performed in the classic-rock-oriented Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, while Pearce continued drumming for Moonwalks during Shadow Show’s earliest days. From the outset the trio pursued cryptic, otherworldly lyrics alongside mod pop melodies, lightly psychedelic garage rock, and stacked vocal harmonies. After issuing two singles and performing a handful of shows, they withdrew from view to focus on recording. Their self-produced album Silhouettes emerged in early 2020, prompting plans for international touring. In the years that followed, the band issued scattered standalone tracks and assorted material while concentrating on the creation of their next record. Fantasy Now!, released in February 2024, broadened their psychedelic pop palette through orchestral flourishes and more intricate arrangements.
