Biography
Faubert first gained notice in independent music circles by fronting the Cheepskates, a band responsible for more than six releases on U.S. and German imprints throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s. Drawing heavily from 1960s influences such as garage rock and British Invasion pop, the Cheepskates approached these sounds through a revivalist lens on their recordings. Transitioning to a solo career as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Faubert explored a broader and more nuanced path in indie pop, skillfully navigating styles including folk-rock, baroque pop, and power pop. His compositions often highlight delicate and vulnerable feelings, which align seamlessly with his clear, natural singing voice. By 1999, he had issued three solo projects, each appearing on Germany's Music Maniac label, despite his American nationality and residence in the New York area.
