Shane Henry, a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, first drew notice across the blues scene through his 2004 Shanachie Records debut, Deliverance. At age fifteen his father brought him to a B.B. King performance; the music that night made an immediate and lasting impression, prompting Henry to buy an electric guitar and absorb the styles of B.B. King, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, and Johnny Winter. One year afterward he issued a self-produced collection of original material and soon began working with Kevin Bowe at the latter’s studio. Already recognized for his high-energy stage presence throughout Oklahoma and Texas, Henry recruited Double Trouble’s Chris Layton on drums and Tommy Shannon on bass for the album, along with guitarists Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Deliverance consists entirely of original compositions except for a driving cover of Muddy Waters’ “Forty Days and Forty Nights.” After touring nationally as an opener for B.B. King and Buddy Guy, Henry came to the attention of Shanachie Entertainment GM Randall Grass, who observed, “There are a lot of guys who can play hot lead guitar; there are fewer who can really sing and even fewer who can also write strong songs; Shane Henry, at a young age, does all three very well, which is very special.” Now residing in Oklahoma City, Henry is preparing a follow-up album while continuing to perform primarily in Oklahoma, Texas, and the South. Fabulous Thunderbirds veteran Kim Wilson remarked, “Shane’s a young up-and-comer who has a lot to say. Listen up!”
