Biography
Growing up on classic rock, Shane Newville later discovered electronica through the Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers, eventually establishing himself as a hip-hop beatmaker, drum'n'bass producer, and sound engineer. He began producing his own tracks in 1995, then came across the Sackcloth Fashion cut "Pulling a Fast One" while reading the Christian music magazine Seven Ball. Captivated by its high-energy hip-hop sound and realizing it belonged to the Syntax roster, he resolved to join the label right away. He soon did, starting on the street team by distributing flyers and championing releases. Persistent demo submissions eventually earned him an invitation to Syntax headquarters after several years, yet that opportunity was deferred when he secured a Mackie scholarship to the SAE Institute, Nashville’s premier audio engineering school. Upon completion of his studies, Newville relocated to San Diego, integrated into the Syntax staff, and crafted beats for artists including RedCloud and Marcos from P.O.D. The label issued his debut album, the drum'n'bass-flavored Formless, in 2007.
