Biography
From a young age in Pittsburgh, Shannon O'Connor—later known as a singer and songwriter—cultivated an early passion for music. Her educational route nevertheless took her to New York City, where she enrolled as an art student at Parsons School of Design. A committed environmentalist, she stepped away from Parsons to cross the United States while training with the Audobon Expedition Institute, absorbing folk music traditions along the way. After returning to Parsons to earn her degree, she continued her studies at Eugene Lang College, taking writing classes with Sekou Sundiata alongside another of his students, Ani DiFranco. Once settled in North Carolina and raising her child as a single mother, O'Connor issued her debut album, Low in Paradise, on Varrga Records in July 2005, aiming through the project to locate the father of her then ten-year-old daughter.
