Biography
Shelley Hirsch, a vocalist, creates, spontaneously performs, and presents her musical compositions across stages throughout North America and Europe. Born in 1952 in East New York, Brooklyn, she remained in that neighborhood through her seventeenth year. She has held three-time artist-in-residence positions at STEIM (Amsterdam) and at Harvestworks/Studio PASS in New York, and she resided and pursued her work in Berlin thanks to a DAAD fellowship. More than 25 CDs feature Hirsch, among them the solo and duo album Singing as well as projects with her longtime collaborator, keyboardist David Weinstein, such as Haiku Lingo and the spoken word piece O Little Town of East New York released on Tzadik in 1995.
