Biography
Drawing from the shadowy elements of 1950s and 1960s artists such as Del Shannon and Phil Spector, Vancouver-based dream pop trio Shimmering Stars apply a contemporary perspective to produce an evocative and moving atmosphere that feels simultaneously recognizable and new. Guitarists Rory McClure and Clint Lofkrantz, bassist Felix Fung, and drummer Andrew Dergousoff—who all handle vocal parts—established the group in spring 2010, prompted by archival Everly Brothers performance clips. Initial demo work occurred in Kamloops, British Columbia, across the latter part of that year and into early 2011. Select tracks from those sessions surfaced on a 7” via Almost Musique during fall 2010, while the full-length debut Violent Hearts, which incorporated new bassist Brent Sasaki, arrived on Hardly Art twelve months afterward.
