Craig Clouse conceived Shit & Shine as a collaborative venture that drew participants from both the U.K. and Texas. The outfit launched with a focus on noise and abrasive electronics before gradually shifting toward broader palettes that occasionally embraced danceable rhythms. Its 2004 debut, You're Lucky to Have Friends Like Us, revealed Clouse's distinctive wit through irreverent samples and multiple drummers, distinguishing him from contemporaneous noise and experimental artists. Demonstrating remarkable productivity, he placed numerous recordings on the Riot Season imprint across the mid- and late 2000s. Beginning in 2012 his work aligned with the industrial and noise resurgence associated with Powell and Russell Haswell, prompting Powell to recruit him for the Diagonal roster and issue a four-track EP the following year. Powder Horn arrived as a full-length statement in 2014. The 2015 album 54 Synth-Brass, 38 Metal Guitar, 65 Cathedral folded in dance elements alongside jazz, funk, and Krautrock influences, while the same year's Chakin' compilation collected Sun Ra- and Miles Davis-inspired pieces originally created for Clouse's Tuesday Jazz Chat YouTube series. Later in 2015 he moved to Editions Mego for Everybody's a Fuckin Expert, which merged noise, techno, funk, and dub textures. Shit & Shine sustained its unpredictability on 2016's grindcore-tinged Teardrops, then delivered the even more club-focused Some People Really Know How to Live the next year.
