Shootin' Pains fuse the ranting intensity of punk rock with rootsy acoustic country, both longstanding pillars of Texas music. Buxf Parrot and Pat Deason, two veterans of the legendary Austin band the Dicks, form the core, with Parrot delivering banjo and vocals and Deason supplying drums and vocals. Acoustic guitars and banjos propel the group's stories of love gone wrong, a world gone haywire, and the myriad eccentricities inherent to life in the Lone Star State. Mark Kenyon, formerly of the Punkaroos, adds guitar, mandolin, and vocals; Todd Kassens, previously with Shoulders, contributes guitar and vocals; and Tom Fairchild rounds out the lineup on bass and vocals. The band labels its style "goat f***in' psycho-Ameracommunist folk rock." Their recording debut arrived in 2003 with the EP Madman's Diary, while the first full-length album, Mean Old Moon, followed in 2005. A second LP, Pray Like Crazy, appeared in 2008.
