Biography
Shower Curtain, a Brooklyn ensemble, weaves an intricate sonic tapestry by blending dream pop, sludgy indie rock, shoegaze, and slowcore textures. The group originated from the solo projects of its central figure, Victoria Winter, the Brazilian-American singer/songwriter who released multiple singles and EPs independently before recruiting a stable lineup. The band delivered its first full-length effort, words from a wishing well, on the Fire Talk label in 2024.
Winter started issuing material under the Shower Curtain moniker in the late 2010s, beginning with the lo-fi EP Mariposa in 2018. Captured as a genuine bedroom project on one noisy tape machine, that collection presented candid yet charming songs whose lyrics appeared in both English and Portuguese. She broadened her textural approach on the self-titled 2020 EP, which established the project’s sound drawing from 1990s influences and shoegaze traditions. Through follow-up singles and the 2021 EP Something Instead, the endeavor expanded into a quartet via the arrival of guitarist Ethan Williams, bassist Cody Hudgins, and drummer Sean Terrell. Brooklyn indie Fire Talk signed Shower Curtain and issued the debut album, words from a wishing well, in October 2024.
