Sick Sad World

After departing Christmas and Arrington de Dionyso’s Malaikat Dan Singa, Olympia-born Seattle resident and Daria enthusiast Jake Jones launched Sick Sad World. Rather than persisting with denser, more demanding material, he opted for leaner pop constructions built around a drum machine, guitar, and four-track recorder. In 2012 he recruited a live ensemble for Sick Sad World; the band promptly began performing throughout Seattle, supporting Parquet Courts, Naomi Punk, and additional acts. At Dub Narcotic Studio, Jones laid down hours of solo recordings with engineer Ben Hargett before shaping the results into compact tracks of gritty, surf-tinged noise pop, forming the band’s first album, Fear and Lies. Help Yourself Records issued the LP in April 2015.
