Biography
Sierra Swan's vocal delivery carries a smoldering intensity often likened to the work of Linda Perry, P!nk, and Fiona Apple. Born to guitarist Billy Swan, she and her sister Planet absorbed the craft of live performance at a young age by following their father's path. During her teenage years she performed regularly at coffee houses, then secured a steady engagement at Goldfinger's in Hollywood upon turning eighteen. In 1997 she teamed with Scotsman Graham Edwards on bass to launch the electronic pop project Dollshead. The pair issued Frozen Charlotte the following year, only to be dropped by MCA. Swan nevertheless continued building her résumé, supplying vocals for Cold's albums 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage and Year of the Spider while also working with Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, which led to a solo contract with Atlantic. During the writing and recording of her intended debut, her mother fell ill and died, after which Swan again found herself without a label. An unexpected encounter with songwriter Linda Perry restored momentum; the two spent 2005 composing and tracking what became her first official album, Ladyland, issued by Interscope in spring 2006. Guest vocals came from Aimee Mann, and Bill Bottrell, known for his work with Sheryl Crow and Elton John, contributed additional production. Swan followed that release with the 2007 EP Coward and the digital albums Queen of the Valley in 2008 and Girl Who Cried Wolf in 2009. She resurfaced in 2014 with Good Soldier, an album produced by Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins and mixed by Bjorn Thorsrud.
