Sik World channels fervent, hard-hitting rhymes that reach his expansive online following with unfiltered, self-examining verses. On his 2017 EP Still Lost he addressed mental-health challenges among other subjects.
Jonathon Quiles entered the world in Tempe, Arizona, where Eminem and Dragon Ball Z shaped his sensibilities equally. During high-school years he turned to music to manage depression and anxiety, then shared the results on the internet. Alongside renditions of popular tracks by Lukas Graham and Justin Bieber, he also inserted original pieces. The 2014 releases “So Alone,” “Broken Home,” and “Broken Wings” preceded “Legendary” the following year.
While preparing a full-length project he cut his own take on Adele’s “Hello,” reflecting a painful split, and issued the single “iHate” toward the end of 2016. Still Lost contained a guest appearance by singer Alex Marie Brinkley on the piano-driven “Liar,” one of several standouts that accumulated millions of streams. The EP introduced Sik World to wider audiences and later peaked at number seven on the iTunes chart. Building on that momentum, he delivered his much-anticipated first studio album, When Stars Align, in September 2019.
