Biography
Silk Flowers, the New York outfit, crafts an otherworldly mix of synthesizers paired with profound, drawling vocals reminiscent of Ian Curtis under the influence of cough syrup. The lineup includes vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Aviram Cohen alongside keyboardist Peter Schuette, formerly of Soiled Mattress & the Springs, plus Ethan Swan who has ties to Car Clutch, Emergency, and Corpse Kisser. Having come together in 2008, the group embarked on a tour that autumn alongside acts such as Sightings, Tickley Feather, and No Age, the latter of which brought them aboard its PPM imprint. Early in 2009 saw the release of the single "In This Place and Time," paving the way for the self-titled debut album later that summer, which Fred Thomas of Saturday Looks Good to Me and City Center produced. For the follow-up effort Ltd. Form in 2011, the band shifted toward a more polished and refined sound, enlisting MNDR's Amanda Warner in the producer's role.
