Formed by Chemist, lovedr0id, and Tom E. Vercetti, Silk Road Assassins emerged as an enigmatic U.K. grime outfit whose sound drew from trap and drill alongside video game scores, science fiction themes, and anime aesthetics. Their productions favor measured tempos and moody atmospheres, pairing somber synthesizer lines with sharply defined, weighty low-end frequencies. The collective first registered in the middle of the decade before delivering a debut album, the 2019 Planet Mu release State of Ruin.

Online appearances of their material commenced in 2014; by December they had supplied a guest mix for Faze Miyake’s Rinse FM show. Attention from Mr. Mitch led to the 2015 Gobstopper Records EP Peace Edits, which featured their cut “T.” Subsequent affiliation with Planet Mu placed “Shaded” on the µ20 - 20 Years of Planet Mu anthology, and the label issued the trio’s initial EP, Reflection Spaces, in April 2016. Coyote Records put out the single “Deadcell” that same year. Activity remained sparse until the 2018 remix of Mr. Mitch’s “VPN,” after which State of Ruin arrived as their first full-length statement. Parts of the meticulously layered set were tracked at Abbey Road Studios, with additional production input from WWWINGS and Kuedo.
