Simon Haram, a saxophonist oriented toward present-day repertoire, has introduced numerous fresh compositions in performance. He maintains a substantial profile as an instructor at multiple premier British conservatories. His engagement with studio techniques has encompassed editing and production responsibilities across assorted releases. Among his recorded appearances stands a contribution to Graham Fitkin: Loosening in 2024.

Born in Liverpool in 1969, Haram enrolled at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he trained under the distinguished saxophonist John Harle and received his diploma with distinction in 1992. Various prizes came his way during his student years and the outset of his professional life; notably, he became the initial wind instrumentalist selected for the Young Classical Artists Trust award. His earliest recorded work arrived in 1994 and encompassed Sax Pax for a Sax by the composer Moondog. The following year he collaborated again with his former teacher on John Harle's Saxophone Songbook. His debut solo disc, On Fire, was issued in 1997 by Black Box Classics.

Entirely devoted to contemporary pieces, the contents of that recording have defined the pattern of Haram's activities. He has collaborated with composers including Graham Fitkin, in whose Graham Fitkin Group he has appeared, as well as Andrew Poppy and Dave Heath. Haram has served as soloist with the London Sinfonietta, an ensemble that has commissioned three new works for him, numerous leading British orchestras, and international groups such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra, and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. At the composer's request he took part in 2008 in the first performance of Harrison Birtwistle's opera The Minotaur at the Covent Garden Opera House.

Active as a chamber musician, Haram has appeared alongside the Duke Quartet, percussionist Daniella Ganeva, pianist Scott Mitchell, and additional partners, while also participating in several stage productions. His discography includes projects for Black Box and Naxos, and he has supplied production services for recordings on further labels. In 2024 he featured on the Signum Classics release Graham Fitkin: Loosening. Haram holds the position of professor of saxophone at the Royal Academy of Music and has instructed additionally at the Guildhall School, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, and the Royal Northern College of Music, besides conducting master classes throughout Britain and overseas.
