Canadian musician David Como records at home as Sing Leaf, shaping an experimental fusion of folk-rock and psychedelic pop laced with electronics and frequently centered on natural imagery. Releases under the name began in 2007, followed by the arrival of debut album Watery Moon in 2013; the project reached Tin Angel Records with the 2018 album Shu Ra.

Como’s singing recalls the style of Dylan and Petty. He started posting tracks and remixes that same year, issuing the self-titled EP in September 2007. Although flute, guitar, drums, and backing vocals appear courtesy of guests, Como handled most of the playing. The pattern continued on the next EP, Wandering, released in 2008. Several self-released singles preceded the full-length Watery Moon, which Chill Mega Chill put out in 2013; guitarist Jordan Bacon, already present on the earlier EPs and co-writer of two songs here, contributed again. A third EP, Lonely Star, arrived a year later and mixed new material with remixes of tracks from Watery Moon.

During this period Como endured a divorce and turned to solitary recording as a private form of therapy, never planning to release the results. Musician and producer Sandro Perri eventually heard the songs and persuaded him to make them public. Tin Angel issued the collection as Shu Ra in 2018; its sound was also shaped by a set of 300 world-music cassettes Como was cataloguing at the time. After remarrying, he began work on the third album, Not Earth, originally envisioning a fictional alien setting. Recorded almost entirely at home except for a few guest spots, including guitar from Bacon, the album was mastered by Perri and appeared on Tin Angel in September 2020.
