Sirsy

Sirsy emerged from Albany, New York as a modern rock outfit whose sound centered on the soaring, blues-tinged vocals of frontwoman Melanie Krahmer. Krahmer launched the project in 2000 alongside bassist Rich Libutti, drummer Greg Nash, and guitarist Mike Steiner; over time the lineup settled into the core duo of Krahmer and Libutti. The band’s unusual name originated as Krahmer’s childhood nickname, which her younger sister struggled to say as “sister.”

Early performances consisted mainly of covers before the members turned toward original songs. Their debut recording, the album Baggage, appeared in 2000. Two years later they issued Away from Here, an effort that sharpened their groove-driven pop approach. Also in 2002 the band put out the three-song DVD The Three Little Videos and the concert album At This Time (Live). Ruby followed in 2004 on the group’s own imprint; Krahmer and Libutti produced the record with John Delehanty. The next year brought two releases in quick succession: Covered and Uncovered. After Revolution in 2007, Sirsy’s next studio output was the 2010 live collection BYOB: Collection B, though the pair maintained a rigorous touring schedule that included shows alongside Maroon 5, Cheap Trick, Blues Traveler, and Collective Soul. In 2013 they returned with Coming into Frame on the Funzalo label, enlisting producers Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade for the project.
