Biography
Mexican-American siblings Lisa Morales and Roberta Morales spent their formative years in Tucson, AZ, absorbing traditional Mexican repertoire while shaping a distinctive pop sensibility. Following high school they went separate ways, yet reunited in 1989 when Roberta supplied background vocals for a group Lisa had already assembled. The lineup expanded with guitarist David Spencer—Lisa’s spouse—alongside drummer Rick Richards and bassist Larry Evans. Relocating to Houston drew attention from Nashville’s country-music circles, though the sisters chose independence, issuing their first album, Ain’t No Perfect Diamond, on the Luna Records imprint they founded in October 1997. The 1999 follow-up, Someplace Far Away from Here, again blended English and Spanish material. By 2002, now settled in San Antonio, they delivered their third collection, Para Gloria, a fully Spanish-language tribute to their mother.
