Clyde "Skip" Battin earned his reputation as a country-rock journeyman through years spent on bass. In 1959-1960 he joined the duo Skip & Flip, which notched three chart entries that year, among them the singles "It Was I" and "Cherry Pie," each climbing to number 11. During the mid-'60s he assembled the Evergreen Blueshoes; between 1969 and 1972 he also served as bassist and vocalist in the Byrds. Subsequent engagements found him performing with various editions of the Flying Burrito Brothers and New Riders of the Purple Sage.
