Biography
Sky Eats Airplane emerged from Texas as a metalcore outfit that weaves electronica accents throughout its sound. The project originated in Fort Worth in 2005 when vocalist Brack Cantrell and guitarist Lee Duck, both previously members of Our First Fall, assembled under the Sky Eats Airplane name. Cantrell and Duck handled every aspect of their debut full-length, Everything Perfect on the Wrong Day (2006), by recording and programming the material themselves. After an initial independent release, Tragic Hero Records of Raleigh, NC, reissued the album in 2007. Cantrell departed shortly after the original version appeared in order to launch Balance Problems, taking on vocals and guitar in the new group. Duck responded by expanding Sky Eats Airplane into a complete ensemble featuring Jerry Roush on vocals, Zack Ordway on guitar, Johno Erickson on bass, and Kenny Schick on drums, all while preserving the electronica elements that had already defined the band’s approach. This expanded lineup tracked the follow-up album Sky Eats Airplane (2008). Issued in partnership with Equal Vision Records, the self-titled effort gained traction within metalcore circles and entered the Billboard 200 upon arrival.
