Biography
Howard "Slim" Hunt entered the already established Supreme Angels as a member in 1956. His early years unfolded in Walnut Grove, Mississippi, where gospel singing became a lasting passion. After relocating first to New Orleans and then to Milwaukee, he affiliated with a local vocal ensemble in 1953. Three years later he took up the guitar and accepted an invitation to tour with the Supreme Angels through the balance of that year, until the existing configuration dissolved in 1957. To meet outstanding performance obligations, Hunt preserved the Supreme Angels name and sustained the ensemble. Although personnel shifted repeatedly, the group upheld rigorous standards and ranked among the foremost versatile gospel quartets under his direction, propelled by his emotive, soaring lead vocals and the skilled guitar work of Robert "Sugar" Hightower. Multiple albums appeared, initially on Nashboro Records and later on Malaco Records, many captured in live settings, before Hunt’s death in 2007. Hightower died in 2010.
