Biography
Following his 1981 departure from Saccharine Trust, drummer Rob Holzman assembled the initial lineup known as Slovenly Peter. Dropping the final word from the name came later, and the newly christened group issued its first recording through New Alliance—the label run by Minutemen—in 1985. After the Original Style attracted little notice, the three subsequent albums earned stronger acclaim: Thinking of Empire in 1986, Riposte in 1987, and We Shoot for the Moon in 1989. By then operating on SST, the band mixed elements drawn from the Fall and Wire through Red Crayola and Captain Beefheart. SST likewise handled the final outing, Highway to Hanno's, which appeared in 1992. Bassist Scott Ziegler, Holzman, and guitarist/vocalist Tom Watson subsequently launched Overpass, releasing two albums under that name.
