Formed in 1996 by musicians who first connected at the University of Georgia, Slow Children at Play drew on third wave ska and upbeat pop-punk, prompting critics to liken them to Reel Big Fish and Blink 182. Based in Athens, GA, the ensemble—featuring Christian Jolly on guitar and vocals, Eric Henson on percussion, Chris Haugh and Mike Coloney on trumpet, Jon Brown on keyboards, Ryan Haylock on tenor sax, and Graham Ingram on bass—issued its first full-length album, Someone Just Called and Complained, in 1999. The next year brought the follow-up release, Let's Kick This Thing.
