Biography
Smartbomb, hailing from Washington, D.C., fuses the raw aggression of area pioneers like Fugazi and Shudder to Think with the tuneful sensibilities of emo acts such as Sunny Day Real Estate. The group took shape in the late '90s after longtime friends Scott Brotemarkle on bass and vocals and Chuck Andrada on guitar and vocals started collaborating, which quickly produced their debut ...Here Comes the Slapback in 1998 via the regional independent imprint Screaming Goddess Records. Shortly thereafter the lineup expanded with the addition of local players Derrick Decker on drums and Steve Augustine on second guitar. Those changes opened doors to support slots at prominent D.C. spots including the 9:30 Club and the Black Cat alongside established national draws like Matchbox 20, Fuel, Smash Mouth, and Our Lady Peace. Their follow-up full-length, Yeah. Well, Anyway..., arrived in 2001 and marked their first outing on the Razor & Tie roster.
