Biography
Jordyn Blakely first built her reputation behind the kit in several other groups, later unveiling the shadowy and expansive lo-fi shoegaze pop of her own endeavor Smile Machine. That project’s initial output, the five-song EP Bye for Now from 2021, centered on fuzz-saturated melodies propelled by her unmistakable drum crashes.
Residing in Brooklyn, Blakely began performing on drums across multiple outfits in the early 2010s, contributing to acts including Butter the Children, Stove, and Jackal Onasis while also serving as a session player for hire. Around 2019 she started developing Smile Machine independently, laying down drum tracks on tape before constructing the remaining elements of each song through fragmented software. The resulting debut EP, Bye for Now, appeared in July 2021 via Exploding in Sound.
