Biography
New Zealand musician Madeline North fronts the nocturnal electropop endeavor So Below, whose signature sound centers on her airy, heavily treated voice paired with lean yet dancefloor-ready synth pulses. The project's first release, the single "Drift," surfaced in 2015, followed by the self-titled debut EP the next year.
While based in Auckland, North enlisted local songwriters Aaron Short of the Naked and Famous, Leroy Clampitt, and Sam McCarthy to shape the material on that initial EP, among them the 2015 lead track "Drift." The song accumulated tens of thousands of streams prior to the March 2016 arrival of the four-track So Below collection. A Taste Nasa remix of "Drift" issued later the same year expanded the track's reach still further.
In March 2018 So Below returned with the EP II, which contained "Visions," a song North co-authored with McCarthy and Chelsea Jade. She subsequently embarked on a European tour opening for Now, Now, having already interpreted their song "SGL" the year before.
