Born in northern Argentina during 1988, Paula García established herself as the Argentinian singer and songwriter operating under the Sobrenadar moniker, Spanish for supernatant, whose output conjures sensations of floating within liquid. Her compositions characteristically fuse delicate guitar textures, unhurried rhythmic pulses, and understated vocal lines, yielding euphoric dream pop suited as an accompaniment to reverie. An independent, self-titled debut arrived in 2010, after which Sobrenadar issued further recordings without external backing while maintaining an international performance schedule across the following decade. The first album to reach audiences worldwide, titled Y, surfaced in 2018.

García relocated to Buenos Aires in 2006 to pursue training in music production, then returned to her hometown two years afterward and commenced capturing material inside a bedroom studio. Multiple EPs and the 2012 full-length 1859 followed the initial release, all made available through her Bandcamp page and steadily building interest among dream pop listeners globally. Casa del Puente Discos issued the 2014 compact disc Tres, which assembled highlights from those formative recordings. The same year brought a performance slot at the annual SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, while participation in the Red Bull Music Academy took place in Paris during 2015. Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, after encountering her work, requested her contribution to his 2017 album On the Echoing Green. Sobrenadar subsequently entered an agreement with the British imprint Sonic Cathedral, whose first release from the project, Y, appeared in September 2018 following remixes by Slowdive and Mark Peters.
