Biography
Sol Guerrero, born in Michigan and now based in Seattle, crafts soulful instrumental hip-hop. He gained attention early in the 2020s by blending incisive samples, lo-fi textures, and boom-bap rhythms on projects that include The Breaks and Cloud City.
Born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, Guerrero drew inspiration from the Alchemist, Detroit legend J Dilla, Digable Planets, and Blue Scholars. After relocating across the country to Seattle, he began releasing material at a rapid pace, starting with the 2020 EPs Hardcore and Seattle Grit. By fusing Detroit’s soulful lo-fi atmosphere with a Northwestern sensibility, he issued 2021’s The Breaks and The Cuts, then followed in 2022 with the full-length albums Columbia City and Cloud City.
