Rosi and Brian Amador established Sol y Canto after their earlier venture, Flor de Cana, which they launched together in 1984 and which dissolved a decade afterward. The ensemble draws on dance rhythms spanning Cuban son, Spanish flamenco, Colombian cumbia, and Puerto Rican bomba, and its lineup reflects a broad mix of origins from Venezuela, Chile, Puerto Rico, Panama, and the United States. Rosi handles vocals while Brian contributes guitars and vocals; they are accompanied by Edilio Bermudez on bass and vocals, Eugenio Huanca on quena, zamponas, and vocals, Renato Thoms on congas, bongo, small percussion, and vocals, plus Jon Weeks on saxes and flute for the 1994 Rounder release Sancocho. Two years afterward came Sendero del Sol, followed by the group’s 1999 return with En Todo Momento.
