Biography
Two classically trained musicians from the Conservatory of Dijon, Thomas Roussel on violin and electronics alongside Yannick Grandjean on cello and electronics, launched SomethingALaMode (SALM) in 2006. Their pivot toward electro and techno occurred after they created orchestral arrangements for Detroit DJ Jeff Mills, a collaboration that began when the pair scored his Pont du Gard concert. The duo’s first release arrived three years afterward on Yellow Productions: the self-titled album containing the single “Rondo Parisiano,” narrated by fashion designer and icon Karl Lagerfeld. Their next project surfaced in 2014 with the album Endless Stairs and its accompanying single “Toy Spark Gun,” which featured Dan Black.
