Biography
In Maceió, Alagoas, Aldo and Juninho first crossed paths before forming the duo Sonic Junior after traveling separate routes that still intersected through shared performances. Juninho started the hardcore group Living in the Shit, an outfit that persisted for roughly ten years and appeared at the Abril Pro Rock and Rec Beat festivals. Aldo, for his part, contributed to a wide range of ensembles across multiple styles. A chance encounter with a groovebox prompted Juninho to recognize electronica’s possibilities for their music. Influences from Medeski, Martin & Wood, Manu Chao, David Holmes, The Metters, Fugees, and Fela Kuti were subsequently folded in, resulting in the duo’s debut release, Sonic Junior (2000). After earlier appearances at Rec Beat and Abril Pro Rock, the pair made its first trip abroad for a June 2001 performance in Paris, France.
