Biography
Sonus Umbra, whose name translates as the sound of shadow, originated in Mexico as a progressive rock group. Its members had previously assembled briefly as Radio Silence, only to discover upon regrouping that another act already held the same name and therefore adopt Sonus Umbra in its place. The 1998 configuration featured Andrés Aullet on vocals, guitar, and keys, Ricardo Gómez on guitar, and Luis Nasser on bass; these musicians had emigrated from Mexico to the United States shortly before the renaming occurred. Their debut release was the album Snapshots From Limbo.
