Sophie Monk, an Australian performer active in both acting and singing, launched her professional path in 1999 by winning a place on the reality series Popstars. Created to assemble an all-female pop act through televised competitions, the program ultimately selected Monk together with Belinda Chapple, Katie Underwood, Sally Polihronas, and Chantelle Barrios—who was soon replaced by Tiffani Wood—to constitute Bardot. Once the ensemble disbanded in 2002, Monk embarked on a solo trajectory, securing a contract with Warner Music and teaming with producer Rob Davis to shape her debut single, “Inside Outside,” which appeared that same year. Her first album, Calendar Girl, followed in 2003. Despite a heavy promotional push ahead of its arrival, the record posted only modest commercial results. Although Monk resumed studio work at the start of 2004 to capture new songs, she soon ended her association with Warner Music so she could devote herself to screen roles. Subsequent projects included The Mystery of Natalie Wood, Date Movie, and Click, plus a featured appearance in the blink-182 video for “Always” and a part in the straight-to-DVD release Sex and Death 101, issued in March 2008. January 2008 media accounts indicated that Monk had separated from her longtime partner Benji Madden, lead guitarist of Good Charlotte, a development formally acknowledged one month afterward.
