Biography
Sweden's Soul Quality Quartet came together in 1993 with an initial roster of bassist Mats Ingvarsson, guitarist Johan Leijonhufvud, keyboardist Mans Mernsten, saxophonist Jonas Palm, and drummer Per Svensson. After releasing their debut album Strip in 1995, the ensemble brought in singer Almaz Yebio along with percussionist Mans Block. The group then secured a deal with Germany's Dialog/Sonar Kollektiv imprint, resulting in a self-titled EP that included remixes by Jazzanova. Their sound draws equally from vintage and contemporary sources, placing Latin jazz, soul-jazz, hip-hop, and drum'n'bass at the forefront. The quartet maintains an active presence on the road, mounting extensive tours across Scandinavia and frequently supporting visiting singers and rappers.
